CHAPTER 32
Sierra stood at the sink in the restroom and repaired her make-up.
Thank God for waterproof mascara. She had no more than a few smudges of black on her cheeks and, thankfully, hadnât ruined Mikeâs white shirt.
She would have been mortified.
It was bad enough to break into a crying fit right there in front of him. In his arms, no less.
All heâd done was listen to her. And ask about how her pregnancy had changed the way she looked at life.
It wasnât that big a deal.
Except that no one else had asked her those questions.
Or even listened to her enough to realize that the pregnancy had changed the way she looked at life.
Now she had to go back out there and face him.
The one person that she cared enough to worry about how he saw her. To want him to see her as being put together and not falling apart.
She swiped some lip gloss over her lips and squared her shoulders.
She still didnât know what he had planned for them.
Theyâd dropped their luggage off at the hotel. Along with the car.
Then theyâd taken a taxi to the restaurant. It was all very unusual.
But then Sierra didnât know much about life in the big city.
Perhaps one day she would be as comfortable as Mike was here.
But then he was comfortable in any situation.
She opened the door to the ladiesâ lounge and stepped out.
Mike was leaning against the wall on the opposite side of the hallway. Close enough that he could see the door, but not so close as to make other women uncomfortable.
He was socially skilled in such things.
He saw her and grinned.
Her heart did a funny little flip flop.
Oh my, but he was a handsome man. Even here in a city of handsome man, there was none more handsome than he was.
When she stopped in front of him, he pulled a rose from behind his back and handed it to her.
She took the lovely red bud with moisture clinging to it, closed her eyes, and sniffed it.
It smelled as beautiful as it looked. âWhere did you get this?â She looked around, but saw no vendors. No one else with flowers.
âItâs New York,â he said. âAnything is possible.â
